About CCS

Canine Concierge Services was formed to provide pet care support services to dog owners in Vancouver, WA to help busy and overwhelmed pet parents meet the physical, mental, social & emotional needs of their dogs, especially those with medical or behavioral challenges. I offer daily visits & dog walks, training consults, light grooming, shopping, errands, medication administration and more. I may also provide referrals, or enlist the services of other trusted partners in the local area depending on your dog's needs. I may recommend a doggy daycare, for instance, if that is something that I think would be beneficial to you and your dog, and if your dog is a good fit for that environment. I may also connect you with a certified, professional dog trainer or veterinary behaviorist if appropriate. I want to get you the support you need, even if it's something I can't provide.

Pet Care Philosophy: I have always felt that pets are a part of the family and I do everything I can to make my pets happy & to keep them healthy. Although love and cuddles is certainly at the top of the list, I know that it often takes more than that to satisfy a dog's needs. I love to incorporate fun training into everyday activities and to use things around the house for added enrichment and to keep things interesting. I have to admit there are some dogs that seem pretty content with 30 minutes of belly rubs and I'm happy to do that too! I will care for your pets as if they were my own & I will respect their limitations and your guidelines for their care. I will make sure they get whatever they need to be happy, so that you can be too!
Training Philosophy: I adhere to the standards of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) & The Pet Professional Guild (PPG), using learning theory & modern scientific evidence as a foundation for behavior modification. I believe in force-free, reward-based training only! I like to keep dogs under threshold, where their emotions aren't taking over their ability to learn, while gently pushing them outside of their comfort zone to help them grow and gain confidence. I believe in guiding dogs, establishing boundaries, building mutual respect and clearly communicating expectations to help dogs navigate the human world. I am always looking for opportunities to reward good behavior! Background/Qualifications: I started working as a professional pet sitter 15 years ago and then did pet sitting for friends, family & former fosters off and on until starting CCS. I volunteered at shelters & rescues from 2001-2016 (including a college internship at Wolf Haven International) and I fostered dogs for a few years. I immediately bonded with my second foster, Kona, and my home became his last. I had no idea what I was getting into! He proved to be an ongoing challenge for me, but one I was willing to structure my entire life around. He taught me so much about dogs and inspired me to learn so much more. We went to a training class, which led us to a veterinary behaviorist and then to a private trainer. These were all valuable experiences for us and we continued to learn & grow together. After self-educating with hundreds of books, seminars, webinars, lectures, videos, etc., I ultimately completed the Professional Dog Trainer Certification Prep Lecture & Lab through Chemeketa Community College, and taught by the wonderful Catherine Comden, CPDT-KA. I continued to build on that knowledge & began planning for a future helping others with their dogs. I was finally blessed with losing my stuffy, office job and given the opportunity to pursue my own business, and so in 2016 CCS was born... Photos Testimonials Blog |
